Hurricane Katrina was one of the most devastating storms to strike the Gulf Coast in decades. Its impact on the region was nothing more than devastating. Much of New Orleans is situated at or below sea level making our levees imperative during such a storm. On August 29, 2005, those levees failed...and left much of the city of New Orleans in ruins.
On our Katrina tour, you will be taken to severely devastated sites around the city, and see the progress being made in rebuilding this great city. You will also learn how Louisiana's disappearing wetlands are negatively impacting New Orleans' hurricane protection system and what must be done to restore this vital barrier to protect us against storm surge.
